Greener Ethanol
Usina Colorado renewed its commitment to the Greener Ethanol AgroEnvironmental Protocol, internationally recognised as a successful initiative that promotes sustainable development.
This pioneering agreement was established between the Government of the State of São Paulo — represented by the Secretariats of Agriculture and Supply and Infrastructure and Environment, together with the Environmental Company
of the State of São Paulo (Cetesb) — and the São Paulo sugar-energy sector.
The certification consolidates best sustainability practices across the sugarenergy production chain through ten Technical Directives:
- Elimination of sugarcane burning;
- Compliance with the new Forest Code (Federal Law No. 12.651/2012);
- Protection and restoration of riparian areas;
- Soil conservation;
- Water conservation and reuse;
- Utilisation of sugarcane by-products;
- Socio-environmental responsibility and certifications;
- Best practices in the use of agrochemicals;
- Measures to protect fauna;
- Prevention and control of forest fires.
Renovabio
In March 2020, Usina Colorado and Central Energética Morrinhos were officially certified by the National Agency for Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP) under the National Biofuels Policy – RenovaBio. The production units of Grupo Colorado had almost 100% of their agricultural areas classified as eligible under the programme.
